Call for Papers and invitation for SWZ-Mini-Workshop "Simulation for Sustainability"

On June 11 and 12 of this year, the SWZ Mini Workshop 2026 will take place at the Institute for Informatics of Clausthal University of Technology under the title “Simulation for Sustainability”. We would like to cordially invite you to this event.

Simulation Science Center Clausthal-Göttingen

SWZ offers various exchange formats and supports the implementation of joint research projects. In addition to the regular SWZ lecture series and the international “SimScience” conference (next event planned for spring 2027), the SWZ Mini Workshop is a low-threshold format for discussing current research questions and gaining insights into new research areas.

SWZ Mini Workshop “Simulation for Sustainability”:
Simulating sustainable solutions together – from theory to application

The workshop planned for mid-June will focus on the central theme of “Simulation for Sustainability” – the targeted application of simulation methods to solve pressing social and environmental challenges. The focus will be on the development and application of mathematical models and innovative simulation methods for complex processes relevant to sustainability: from the simulation of energy and transport networks to material simulations with a focus on recycling and resource efficiency to simulation approaches for complex.

The workshop is particularly aimed at young researchers and doctoral students, who - after presenting their own work and ideas - can then also discuss with experts from “the other field”. The mini-workshop therefore sees itself more as a discussion forum for generating new ideas than as a format for finalizing completed projects.

Keynotes

The following keynote speakers have been invited for the Mini Workshop:

  • Dr.-Ing. Michael Bosse, SimpaTec Engineering GmbH (Aachen)
  • Prof. Dr.-Ing. Min-Kyu Paek, Institute of Metallurgy, Clausthal University of Technology
  • Prof. Dr. Aleš Ude, Jožef Stefan Institute (Slovenia)

Call for Papers

If you would like to participate in the Mini Workshop with a presentation or a poster, we would be pleased if you could submit an abstract of approx. 1/3 page by May 4, 2026 (see contact details below). The aim of the Mini Workshop is deliberately to present and discuss research projects in progress; doctoral students in particular are cordially invited to present their research projects.

Schedule

The workshop will take place on June 11, 2026 (all day) and on June 12, 2026 (morning). Lunch and dinner have to be paid for by the participants themselves, but there is no conference fee. You can find the complete schedule in the invitation pdf:
